Hi,
My name is Gavin Burt.
I am an osteopath who for the last 20 years has had a respectably unhealthy passion for long distance running, and a love of treating injuries sustained by long distance runners of all levels, from the likes of Paula Radcliffe to the beginner 5k runner who is looking to lose weight.
I must just say that this is a personal blog. I’m not expecting anyone to read it, and i am most certainly not looking to use it to get any business. There, that’s out of the way!
I have myself been on a personal journey of recovery. In 2013 I had a knee operation which put me out of running for what should have been only a few months. As i recovered from the operation I found that i had lost the mojo for running completely, and had got back in touch with, and was spending far too much time with, two old friends; food and alcohol!
Over the following 5 years I put on 15kg, drank heavily, developed excema and psoriasis, developed stubborn and plentiful varrucas, chronic sinusitis, and lost a great deal of self-esteem and confidence. Nice!
A couple of months ago I stumbled across an idea that i thought might help me to get my mojo back. I thought it would be a good idea to run every ParkRun in London, of which at the time of writing this there were 47. As far as i know this is not a particularly novel idea. It has been done by some people already, but it really excited me because I could monitor my improvement in fitness over a year period (all your race times are logged onto your personal account on their website)….. AND i could visit parts of London i’d never even heard of!
So the following blog will chart over about a year period my experiences of getting back to running again. So here goes………… press here for the blog
