I can’t believe it! I actually managed to get to Riddlesdown for my parkrun this morning! I’ve been meaning to visit this parkrun, which is the furthest london parkrun away from where i live, for the last 6 weeks!

I’m so glad I made it because not only was it a beautiful run, all cross country, with some spectacular views, but the people were also lovely! I was made to feel very welcome both before and after the run! Definitely going to go back there again – although i’ve been told that it probably wouldn’t be a good idea to go in deep midwinter!

Riddlesdown Common is an area of heath and woodland in the London Borough of Croydon, one mile east from the centre of Purley.

According to Wikipedia the “Riddle” part of the name is thought to come from the Middle English ridde leah, meaning “cleared woodland”.

As i was loitering around, once i’d dropped off my helmet and jacket with the volunteers, I saw that people were walking in groups in one direction…….. so i just followed in the vain hope that this was the way to the stat. It was! And in about 5 minutes we were at the start and ready to set off!
The run felt pretty good, and I was very sensible and took it really easy, as i am still really worried about the health of my hamstring. Hamstring gave me no problems, and I finished the run feeling pretty strong.
Here is a picture of me with the Run Director, Nicky Clark who told me that this was her 600th volunteering day!! What an incredible achievement, it’s almost unbelievable that someone has given up their time so much for so many people.

Thank you Nicky and all the marshalls and volunteers at Riddlesdown for such a great day! See you soon!
