Just back from a week in Lanzarote, at Club La Santa sports resort, where I learned to swim front crawl properly! I’ve spent 53 years disliking both the fantasy and the reality of swimming. For years friends and patients have been telling me that if i actually learned how to swim properly, ie. with good technique, then i would be a convert.
I have dismissed this for far too long, so i decided to try swimming lessons. However, why learn to swim in a highly chlorinated and busy london pool when i could go to a hot country and mix the learning with a holiday? A no brainer, really.
So off to Lanzarote i went. Rather than tell you all about it, here are some pictures, which speak for themselves.
So, a week later, and dare i say it…….. they were all right! I am now a convert, and am loving both the feel and the technical challenge of swimming. A busy chlorinated london pool is a small price to pay for the exhilarating feeling of the swimming itself!
Anyway, I returned with renewed vigour for sports in general, and have had a couple of great swims already. This saturday just gone I did the Walthamstow Parkrun. Number 27, so just over half way through the 53 parkruns there are currently.
The walthamstow parkrun takes place in the grounds of the Peter May sports centre. Not the most inspiring grounds for a run, but then not every place can be Hampstead Heath or Brockwell park!

The lacklustre park was a small price to pay for running with a lovely bunch of people!
Despite the fact that i have just had a week of exercising every day (swimming, golf, tennis, squash, table tennis, aerobics, step, yoga, pilates……..) I felt really sluggish going around the course. Then i realised that it was probably because i forgot to take my inhaler, AND, that i had gone out on the razz the night before…… duh!!
The Peter May sports ground is in the London Borough of Waltham Forest

Here is a picture of me with the Run Director….
